The Enormous Turnip

This week we have continued our learning about The Enormous Turnip. The children had a go at writing their own versions of the book, using their phonics knowledge to label the pictures they had drawn and their talk for writing to retell the story. We’ve been exploring shape in maths and the children have been using new vocabulary of ‘sides’ and ‘corners’ to describe the properties of different shapes. This week we also planted our very own vegetable seeds! The children will be looking after them and watching them grow and change over the next few weeks and months, and hopefully in the spring we’ll be able to eat our home grown peas and lettuces!

At Thistle Hill, our children are excited and motivated to engage in rich and challenging experiences, both inside and outside of their classroom. We have high ambitions for all of our children, with staff planning carefully to meet each child’s needs and stage of development, ensuring our children get off to a great start in their education. Child initiated play based learning is at the heart of our practice. We carefully plan for opportunities, activities and experiences that develop all of our children into independent, resilient and confident learners.
