EYFS

We believe that every child has the right to experience an outstanding Early Years education.

At Thistle Hill, our children are excited and motivated to engage in rich and challenging experiences, both inside and outside of their classroom. We have high ambitions for all of our children, with staff planning carefully to meet each child’s needs and stage of development, ensuring our children get off to a great start in their education. Child initiated play based learning is at the heart of our practice. We carefully plan for opportunities, activities and experiences that develop all of our children into independent, resilient and confident learners.

‘This week in Reception we had our Fabulous Finish event. The children retold the story of The Three Little Pigs, then it was time to get creative! We finished off by singing a song that we had been learning for Harvest Festival. It was fantastic to see so many of our parents and carers attend the event, the children had a lovely time celebrating their first topic- All About Me!

This week in Reception, the children have been learning all about The Three Little Pigs. They’ve been using their construction skills to make their own houses like the ones in the story- they’ve especially enjoyed mixing and spreading their own cement to make their houses stronger! They have also been remembering and using all the repetitive language from the book to retell the story in many different ways.

This week our Reception children have very much enjoyed exploring the new equipment and opportunities in their outside area. The gardening and planting area has been a big hit and the children can’t wait to start growing and taking care of their own vegetables! It’s been lovely to see our ‘green-fingered’ children collaborating during their play and working as a team.
